LAKE PUPUKE WALKWAYS
Lake Pupuke is freshwater lake occupying a volcanic crater between the suburbs of Takapuna and Milford and is a popular destination for local residents for a range of aquatic and passive land based recreational activities. The lake has inherent landscape qualities and values associated with significant bodies of water, proximity to the coast and volcanic geological origins. There are pockets of native bush, sensitive conservation areas, resident wildlife, sites of archaeological significance to iwi. The crater wall has been recently quarried in several places, most extensively in the Quarry Lake Reserve. Auckland Council recognised that opportunities exist to provide higher quality amenities and improved shared pathway facilities for locals, walkers, commuters and recreational lake users. Bespoke were commissioned to develop a conceptual framework that focuses on establishing a cohesive walkway network in tandem with improving user experience, environmental appreciation and open space quality.
