METRO PARK WEST

Bespoke were engaged by Auckland Council to lead design and provide a key support role in community consultation on several conceptual options for this 14 hectare reserve in Millwater. The preferred and approved concept for development is inspired by Wainui's historic rural landscape, natural rolling landform and gully systems. This centred around the creation of an experiential meandering ephemeral 'stream', that is supported by native riparian and specimen tree planting to create a series of open and enclosed spaces for events and recreation. The park will include carparking and associated farmers market area, central stage, sculptural interpretive markers (referencing the sites historic gully system), and a playspace. The playspace offers the opportunity to embrace Wainui's historic land use and productive landscape and themes of agricultural, timber milling and remnant orchard, that have been influential in its growth and establishing the historic character of the area. The project is nearing the consenting and implementation phase.
