MARLOW PARK PLAYSPACE
The concept for Marlow Park serves to give an indication of development potential, the range of activities, experiences and supporting elements appropriate for a destination-level playspace facility. Mātauraka Kāi Tahu will inform the design outcomes of this playspace, creating the opportunity for mana whenua values and stories to be integrated into the overall experience for tamariki and adults alike. The proposed approach focuses on retaining and elevating key iconic elements, and the development, or re framing of others to provide new meaning and worth. In addition to respecting existing dinosaur elements, the concept introduces explorative sand play and forms that embrace coastal context with references to the Kaituna wetland prior to European colonisation. Place marker patterns, theming and concepts provide opportunity for cultural integration and will be further developed in partnership with mana whenua and Aukaha.
