MONARCH PARK NATURE PLAY

Monarch Park was identified as part of Bespokes’s wider Kaipātiki Local Board nature play feasibility assessment for the establishment of Nature play. Monarch Park has an extensive bush setting and existing community-led placemaking elements such as fairy door, toadstool-themed picnic tables and stools installed throughout the park. Design interventions build on the existing unstructured play and are strategically positioned to promote activities throughout the existing nature trail to encourage exploration, creativity, and educational play. Structures introduced as part of the nature trail include ‘teepee’ structures allowing children to construct ‘huts’ with loose elements, insect hotels and a butterfly meadow to facilitate engagement with emphasis on learning and exploration.
