TUFF CRATER WALKWAY

Bespoke were engaged by Auckland Council to review the existing landscape character of the Te Kopua o Matakamokamo - Tuff Crater walkway in context of a possible future implementation of a wider shared cycleway / walkway. The upgraded cycleway / walkway would aim to provide an offroad connection from the planned commuter cycleway along the northern motorway edge to the surrounding suburban areas. Bespoke undertook an intensive site walkover to record and note important landscape characteristics and areas that showed potential for future improvement. Key areas of analysis included research into the cultural and historical significance of the crater to Mana Whenua, and investigation into the legibility of the old WWII tank bases now hosting significant native wetland species.

Bespoke are currently developing designs for the future upgrade of the track.
